A word from our Operator Vice President...

Hello Members and guests:

I will start by saying… I am proud to be able to serve in the capacity of

Operator Vice President. I plan to uphold the contract and bylaws of this Local to

the best of my ability.

This is a bright time for our Local. Memberships growing and more than ever

our Officers and Stewards are friendly and knowledgeable. We are here to help you with any job related issue.

Local ATU 1637 is working hard to improve visibility and usability by offering special items with our emblem to instill pride in all members and to bring members into the fold of our Brotherhood.

If you should find that, your job is in jeopardy contact a Union Representative and let them stand in your defense, know your rights!

There have been times when the Amalgamated Transit Union has been compared to other unions. There is no comparison, we are all equal in that we recognize an opportunity to share in a common goal… move to improve and stay united!

Local Unions have their trade issues. In each local, the members vote on a contract and no two are the same regardless of how many or few.

The ATU does not have an apprenticeship program, although the International has training seminars for officers and stewards, we learn hard by our mistakes. Staying Consistent with training helps our Officers and Stewards to stay abreast of the different laws to serve the local union. Contract Negotiation, Financial and Grievance Handling…, just to name a few.

Each Local union is only as strong as their leadership and membership, there is power in numbers and those numbers have to stay up for your voice to be heard louder and respected.

ATU Local 1637 has your best interest in mind; it cost money to operate a local to serve the members properly. We are in a constant state of recruitment, word of mouth is the best advertising… letting others know how a particular representative has helped saved your job or advised you in certain situations is a good way to say promote your local.

Members can propose by-law changes, offer advice as to better improve the local or offer a piece of your time to see through a special project. Feel free to address new issues and bring your ideas to the next union membership meeting.

I just want to make it clear WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT! Get involved take action get the most out of your union lets make a better tomorrow by starting today.
